Frosty Foxes and Flying Geese

Quilting with a panel can be a fantastic, fun, and fast way to put together a quilt, but many quilters find them a struggle to use. In this class, come learn how to make a panel based quilt work for you. Learn the necessary math for creating borders like the one in this class, and familiarize yourself with the Ultimate Flying Geese Ruler by Creative Grids. This class is ideal for beginner quilters who are ready to spread their wings and try something new, the intermediate quilters who still struggle with getting borders they are happy with, or the more experienced ones who are honing their skills in quilting without a pattern.
| Skill Level: | Intermediate |
| Skill Details: | The first class period (January 5) covers some of the math for calculating the length of the borders, demonstrates the use of the flying geese Creative Grids ruler, and the process of turning the pieces into a flying geese block. Between classes, students will complete the necessary flying geese blocks to finish the class. During the second class period (January 12), students will have the opportunity to discuss any difficulty faced with creating the flying geese, then the math involved will be covered in greater depth and the final construction of the quilt top will be completed. |
| Materials Included: | Tip sheets for working with the Creative Grids rulers. |
| Requirements: | A sewing machine (be sure it is working properly well before class). All basic sewing supplies and notions. A rotary cutter with a fresh blade. A rotary cutting mat (preferred as there will be limited mat space available otherwise). Fox Panel and yardage for the flying geese design (Dimensions for these, along with a full supplies list, will be sent out following sign up for the class). |

| Instructor Bio: | I learned to garment sew in high school and assisted a friend wth her custom bridal business for many years. A friend talked me into taking a sampler quilt block of the month class, which served as a good exposure to many block techniques. As I finished that first quilt, another friend said, "come see my new machine!" It was a long arm, and I soon found that piecing and long arm quilting are my passion. My husband and I have lived in Walla Walla since 2017. Retirement has allowed me to really stretch my quilting skills. I enjoy using Creative Grids rulers on projects. Their ease of use has relieved much of the frustration that can come with this craft and have allowed me to become a more accurate quilter. It is a joy to share what I have learned with others. |
